MOTOR RUN CAPACITOR Single-phase AC electric motors require a “Run Capacitor” to energize the second-phase winding (auxiliary coil) to create a rotating magnetic field while the motor is running. Motor run capacitors are designed for continuous duty while the motor is powered. Run capacitors are mostly polypropylene film capacitors and are energized the entire time the motor is running. Motor run capacitors are also usable for general sine wave applications such as filters, inverters, UPS devices, etc.

A Motor Run Capacitor provides continuous power to the motor during operation, while a Motor Start Capacitor is used only during the motor's start-up phase.
Always select a capacitor with the voltage and capacitance ratings specified by the motor manufacturer to ensure compatibility.
A failing capacitor can lead to reduced motor efficiency, overheating, or complete motor failure.
